About Us

About Us

A small team, looking after your eyes.

At Murray Opticians, our optometrists have advanced post graduate qualifications that allow us to provide a higher level of care than a routine sight test.

Carmel, an Independent Prescriber Optometrist with Professional Certificates in Pediatric Eyecare & Medical Retina, and Janiece with a Professional Certificate in Glaucoma can assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of eye conditions, offering expert advice and treatment with prompt referral to hospital specialists whenever needed.

Optometrist/ Business Owner

Carmel Murray

Alongside her commitment to the very highest standards in patient care, Carmel has over 30 years’ experience testing eyes. She loves the challenge of sorting out whatever eye problem, vision difficulty or spectacle issue her patients have. Patient and calm, she always takes time with her patients to really understand what their concerns are. This is why working as an independent, local optometrist is so important to Carmel and her team.
Carmel has been an Independent Prescriber Optometrist for over 12 years following the completion of her Diploma in Independent Prescribing. She also has a Professional Certificate in Paediatric Eyecare and in 2024 successfully completed her Professional Certificate in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Carmel has developed specific expertise in the management of visual stress using coloured filters.
During 2023 / 2024 she was involved in a NI PEARS Pilot scheme with Royal Victoria Hospital Eye Casualty managing some patients that ordinarily would have attended Eye Casualty, in the practice.
Outside of work, she enjoys travel, plays the harp, gardens and enjoys eating out with friends.

Optometrist

Janice Coleman

Janice loves using her skills, training and 30 years’ experience in community optometry to help people. She has a specialist interest in Glaucoma, was one of the first optometrists to complete the Professional Certificate in Glaucoma and has been part of the award-winning Ocular Hypertension/Glaucoma monitoring in the community scheme since its inception in 2018. This means Janice has the expertise to provide the Ocular Hypertension Review and Monitoring Service in the practice.
Outside of work, Janice is kept busy with her family – Janice, her husband and daughters love to travel to concerts all over Europe!

Optical Receptionist

Shelley

Shelley started her working life in a solicitors office but has embraced the worlds of optics since 2023. She is the friendly face and voice on the front desk Monday and Tuesdays if you call in or phone the practice. She cannot believe how detailed and interesting the work is and all the different eye conditions there are. When children come for their eye examination, Shelley is surprised and delighted by how young some of the children are that need glasses and how the eye test is adapted to suit their age. She loves helping patients choose their new frames and has a great eye for what shape and colour flatter!
