Eligibility guide: who qualifies?
The NHS pays for an eye examination if you fall into any of the groups below.
Children
- Under 16 years old
- Under 19 and in full-time education
Adults aged 60 and over
Anyone aged 60 or over is entitled to a free NHS-funded eye examination — no other qualifying condition required.
On qualifying benefits or income
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
